Designing for a small space can be very difficult as you are limited by square footage. The scary question is, how do you begin?
STEP 1: INSPIRATIONAL IMAGE
An inspirational image plays an essential role in the whole design process. It speaks to your identity as a home owner/renter. Essentially it should help define the characteristics of your style, passion, interests and hobbies.
In this example the client enjoys the beach, surfing and swimming. As for the clients personality; fun and energetic come to mind. While for interior style a beach feel with an electric influence.
STEP 2: COLOUR SCHEME
This is the exciting element of the whole project as it involves finding the right colours, and patterns that will not only suit the personality of the client but will also create a cohesive collection.
STEP 3: DESIGN PLAN
Before I begin, I would like to mention that this image above is a 2D rendering I created using Affinity Design.
Setting a design is very important because this part is the icing on the cake. It determines how the furniture will correspond with the surrounding elements this includes the flooring, chair rail moulding and wallpaper. Start with your sofa, then to your choice of a wallpaper, then art, then accent pieces such as side table, lighting and finally your coffee table.
