Before and After: Traditional Living room

Mixing traditional and contemporary style can be very difficult as traditional style has a lot of curves and intricate detail while contemporary style is more linear and simplistic. Now more than ever, people are blending different styles through furniture to create a more lived in look which exhibits a sense of depth and comfort.

One way to tackle this big project is to begin with an area rug. In this project the designer has layered jute and a striped rug. While, used white as the dominant colour in the space to support the different shades and pattern.

Designing a traditional space can be challenging because of the ornate details.  It’s always important to maintain the character of a space, so a feature such as a fireplace can act as a focal point as well as help with the space planning for furniture arrangement.
