Romantic comedies such as Something’s Gotta Give and Something Borrowed are movies which were filmed in the Hamptons. While watching these movies you might have looked at the interior style and fell in love with it. Well, lets show you how to achieve the same look.
The classic Hampton style should exude a sense of calmness and coziness. Recognized as the top destination for the wealthy, the Hamptons is located in the eastern Long Island South Fork.
When you search Hamptons, one of the most commonly asked question on google is “which celebrities live in the Hamptons?”. Sure enough there is a list which includes Anderson Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin.
Ok, so now we have a better understanding of the type of people that live in the Hamptons. The background information is the foundation of the style, it helps with nailing down the style effectively but most importantly how to source furniture to achieve the same look. Furniture shopping for Hampton style will be on the higher-end, so someone with a lower budget will need to consider specific details about the style that they admire.
“Casual elegance with updated fresh timeless look that everyone would love to live in,” is the definition of Hampton style according to Libby Langdon. She mentions that unfinished wood is a great feature of the style as it makes the room look “soft, approachable and not too dressy”.
Just by browsing the pictures below, you will instantly notice the light and airy feel that comes with Hampton Style. This undeniable laid back traditional interior is very difficult to achieve.
As this interior is similar to coastal style, so expect to see blues and green. However, some Hampton style opt for warm tones using wood furniture and decor pieces to create a beautiful ambiance.
For instance, in one of the pictures below you will see brown grasscloth wallpaper above the fireplace, with the white molding this pastel brown is an accent color and the room doesn’t seem dull. Contrast is created using the wallpaper and an airy feel is maintained without creating a washed up all white interior.
In such a traditional setting, pink can be used to create a fun yet sophisticated feel using throw pillows, lounge chairs and drapery. As you will see even leather can be used while still maintaining a light and cozy feel, the trick is to ensure that warm tones such as brown, red and pink are accent colors.
Gold is also a tricky color to have in a beach like setting. With the recent rise of gold finishes in interior it’s almost impossible to avoid using it in your decorating process. Some designers have truly mastered the art of decorating with gold by ensuring that it’s an accent color such as on a mirror frame, legs of a table, and drapery rod. This makes it less overpowering and makes the lighter tones more dominant in the room.
Achieving Hamptons style can be difficult because it is a mixture of traditional and coastal style. We hope the images have provided more guidance on how to implement some of the main features of the design.
